All Doncaster's buses suspended and trains seriously delayed as snow causes havoc on borough's roads

First and Stagecoach suspended all their routes in the borough earlier, with some parts of the town reporting several inches of snow this morning. Residents in Sprotbrough were reporting around five inches.
Some services were this evening starting to return
Some residents have raised concerns over the amount of gritting that has been carried out in the borough overnight.

Hide AdStagecoach Yorkshire has confirmed all its routes in the borough have been suspended just after midday, and First have later confirmed their buses were also were being suspended until further notice.
They had earlier started to reduce their services. Residents in Rossington described how they had stopped driving on the estates earlier in the day.
“We are so sorry for any inconvenience this may cause,” said a spokesman for First.
One resident who had earlier taken the bus into Doncaster town centre for an essential appointment said: “All the buses at the interchange had been cancelled. It took an hour for my bus to get in from Rossington, and it got stuck four times.
"I think I’ll have to walk home.”

Hide Ad“Roads like Great Yorkshire Way and Great North Road did not seem to have been gritted.”
Doncaster Council tweeted that the main roads had been gritted.
Residents also descrbed cars struggling to drive along Trafford Way.
The snow has also affected the borough’s rail links
LNER, which runs the borough’s main rail route, said: “Owing to the failure of the electricity supply between Doncaster and Leeds, all lines in the area are currently blocked.Services across the route may be cancelled/altered or delayed by up to 40 minutes.

Hide AdNorthern Rail added: Due to signalling problems between Adwick and Doncaster all services between Leeds and Doncaster are currently having to run at a reduced speed.“Train services between Leeds and Doncaster may be delayed up to 30 mins.“Network Rail are on site working to rectify this fault now.”
Taxi services have also been affected by the disruption.
Alpha Taxis, one of the borough’s biggest operators, were only running existing bookings and were not taking new ones because of the snow that had fallen.
Askern, Edlington, Mexborough and Thorne Libraries were closed due to the snow.
