Night Strider set to light up the sky in Sheffield
Last year saw 1,000 people take to the streets for the first event, a sponsored half marathon and 10k trek that lit up the autumn darkness and raised more than £100,000 for Sheffield’s only hospice.
And on Saturday, October 8, Night Strider – sponsored by Gripple - will be back, with the aim of seeing more people than ever before taking part and raising even more money.

Hide AdGreg van Heeswijk, St Luke’s events coordinator, said: “Our first Night Strider event was an amazing night with all our walkers illuminated with lights under the Sheffield night sky. Having enjoyed such a fantastic success with our debut event we are determined to make our second year even bigger and brighter, with more people taking part and enjoying the magic of an unforgettable night.
“The important thing to remember for everybody taking part is that the sponsorship and fundraising each participant can achieve will ensure that St Luke’s can continue to be there for our friends, our family, our city – for life.”
Night Strider will set off from Tudor Square in Sheffield city centre at 7.30pm with walkers choosing either a half marathon or 10k route.
The event is open to anybody over the age of 10 - although participants aged 10 to 17 must be registered and accompanied by another participant aged 18 or over. Wheelchair users are also welcome to take part but due to the nature of the challenge and the distance it is advisable they should have suitable assistance throughout. Registration costs £25.
