Residents using Campsall Country Park had been concerned for several days about the meowing sound of a cat, which could be heard in a section of the park.
And when police community support officer Charlotte Jones, part of the South Yorkshire Police’s Doncaster East neighbourhood policing team, and a Doncaser Council officer, arrived near the park to take part in an operation to check for speeding cars, they saw a number of members of the public gatherered around an area where they thought they had located the animal.

Insp Alison Carr said: “Charlotte and her colleague from the council were going to a speeding operation, but when they got to the location there were people seaching bushes, so they asked what was wrong.
"It was an animal that was thought to have been stuck for three or four days. Most of the people around there were dressed in shorts and T-shirts – but Charlotte and her colleage had come dressed for work, so they waded into the brambles to get the cat out.”
Police said after much patience the kitten was captured, and residents looked after the kitten until the RSPCA came to collect it. Officers described what happened on Wednesday as a ‘different type of joint working in the community’ for the police and council.

One that occasion a fire engine stopped to help a tiny animal which had fallen between two fences next to Moss Road, and was hiding in a small plastic container, close to Askern Industrial Estate. A crowd of worried residents gathered but were unable to get to it, so the fire crew intervened.
