Doncaster children take Christmas cards to residential home

Children who wanted to cheer up residents in a Doncaster care home decided to make them special Christmas cards in hopes of bringing a smile to their faces.

Children aged three to 12 made a very special delivery to the Rokeby Gardens Residential Home in Kirk Sandall.

Childminder Joanne Kennett, said: “During the first lockdown we did a similar thing where we made windchimes and pictures of rainbows for them.

“This time it was the decision of the children to make something festive and take it to the residents.”

Joanne runs Homestead Childcare which uses the curiosity approach.

As part of that method Joanne said that thinking about others emotions and needs is highly valued.

She has been encouraging non chaotic activities with the children on the run up to Christmas to help their well being.

“The children have been through so much this year so we are not doing the usual Christmas parties but opting for options that make them feel safe and secure,” she said.
